Wilma (Eick) Blakeslee, 92, of Durham, wife of the late Heaton Pratt Blakeslee, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Middlesex Hospital.

Born in Durham, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Helen E. (Jancura) Eick. Wilma was a member of the Durham Day Homemakers, a long time member of the United Churches of Durham, and worked on many Red Cross blood drives.

She enjoyed her many friends, spending time at the Durham Grange, and always enjoyed having a house cat and a garden. Being the oldest of nine brothers and sisters, she became a good homemaker and provider at an early age.

Wilma is survived by her son, Henry A. Blakeslee of Durham; two brothers, Russell A. Eick and Wilbur M. Eick, both of Durham; two sisters, Alma E. Goree of Rayville, LA and Myrtle E. Leighton of Durham; a grandson, Andrew P. Heymann IV and his wife, Kathleen of Glastonbury; two great grandchildren, Kyle L. Heymann and Andrew P. Heymann V and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Helen M. Blakeslee; a brother, Edwin A. Eick; three sisters, Rhoda E. Monthei, Shirley E. Ballard and Mildred E. Holzer; a granddaughter, Susan W. Heymann and a brother-in-law, John Weir Blakeslee.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. at the United Churches of Durham, 228 Main St., Durham with the Rev. Dr. Elven Riggles, Jr. officiating and interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown and in lieu of flowers, may make donations in Wilma's memory to the Durham Volunteer Ambulance Corps., PO Box 207, Durham, CT 06422 or the Durham Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 154, Durham, CT 06422.
