Roy W. Smith
Roy W. Smith, 89, of Stratford passed away at home on Sept. 20, 2008. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Doris Smith. He is survived by a sister, Vivian Dux as well as three sons and their spouses, Roy and Georgene Smith of Rockfall, Mark and Donna Smith of Shoreham Village, New York, and Bruce and Debbie Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada. Also, there are six grandsons and granddaughters, Shalyne Spilsbury and husband Brad, Ryan, Ian and wife Kim, Damien and wife Marty, Devin and wife Robin and Kia Smith. There is also a great-granddaughter, Brianna and three great-grandsons, Dakota, and Hunter Spilsbury and Mason Smith.
Roy's family would like to extend a special thank you to his neighbors, O.J. and Robin Burns, for their many years of close friendship and aid. He was especially proud to have served as a medic and officer in the fourth Armored Division, Third Army during World War II. He was a committee member of Boy Scout Troop 71 for over 30 years, serving as chairman for some of that time. He was a member of the Bridgeport Men's Garden Club for almost as long. He maintained resplendent gardens at his home throughout his life there. He and Doris were birders and outdoorsmen their entire lives. Roy and Doris were members of the First Congregational Church of Stratford for all the years they lived in Stratford.
In honor of their anniversary and their wish to be together in death a Memorial Service to celebrate both their lives will be held at the First Congregational Church of Stratford at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 18, 2008. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Stratford.
