NEW HAVEN - Southington senior Matthew Bennett earned a Class LL shot put championship with a toss of 52 feet, 4 ½ inches at the Floyd Little Athletic Center.
Bennett edged out Norwark’s Evan Adams (49-6) and Cheshire’s Chibueze Njoku (48-2) for the title.
Farmington 47, Southington 32: Southington suffered its first home loss since the 2011-2012 season with a CCC West loss to Farmington. The Blue Knights fell behind 18-2 and battled back to get the game within seven at the half. The Indians, however, pulled away in the second half to improve to 14-3 overall and 9-3 in the West.
Southington (11-6, 7-4 West) was paced by Natalie Wadolowski, who had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Maggie Meehan added 11 points for the Blue Knights.
Sophie Borg scored a game-high 20 points for Farmington.
Newington 85, Southington 73 (OT): The Blue Knights rallied 18-10 in the fourth quarter to force overtime, but there the visiting Indians outscored the home team 17-5 to pull out the CCC West victory.
It continued a hard-luck season for the Blue Knights. They fell to 1-13 overall and remained winless in divisional play at 0-9.
Pat Freer put up 21 points for Southington. Mike Pagano had 15 and Matt Sorrentino added 12.
Zach Tinkham scored a game-high 27 points for Newington and Jared Simmons kicked in 22. Marcus Guadarrama added 18 as the Indians improved to 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the West.
Hall 57, Southington 45: Pat Freer tossed in 16 points, but the Blue Knights’ struggled continued with the CCC West loss in Southington.
Lamont Freeman led Hall (8-8, 4-5 West) with 19 points. Zach Feiner had 14 and Tom Honyotski had 10.
Southington (1-15, 0-11 West) has lost 14 straight games.
Southington 42, Conard 32: The Blue Knights surged late to post the CCC West victory in West Hartford. Forfeits in the last two bouts helped doom the Chieftains.
The Blue Knights got quick pins from 195-pounder Zach Maxwell (1:00) and 106 Zack Murillo (0:29). Zach Bylykbashi posted an 18-1 technical fall at 126.
Winning by decision for Southington were Alex Martin (9-6 at 152) and Shawn Devin (80) at 162.
Zach Smith, Austin Abacherli and Austin Garuti accepted forfeits for the Blue Knights.
Hall 97, Southington 89: The Blue Knights slipped to 5-4 on the season with the CCC West defeat at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford. The host Warriors won all but two events.
For Southington, Joe Taglia took the 100-yard freestyle in 52.95 and, in the process, qualified for the postseason meets.
Also, the Blue Knights picked up first-place points from Matt Duszak in the 100 breaststroke. He touched in 1:09.84.
